East Ridge High School Choirs

Welcome to the East Ridge High School Choirs website. East Ridge High School is one of four high schools in Minnesota Independent School District 833, South Washington County Schools. It is the mission of the District 833 Vocal Music Department to empower lifelong learners through experiencing the broad spectrum of the aesthetic and fundamental elements of music. Students will realize their full potential as human beings and members of the global society as music enhances their quality of life. The vision of East Ridge High School is that all graduates will achieve college and career readiness supported by the four pillars: academic rigor, activities, relationships, and technology. East Ridge Prima Voce

East Ridge Prima Voce is open to singers with a treble voice for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Membership in Prima Voce will provide students with class experiences in solo and group singing. The focus of the class includes development of musical independence through study of the voice itself, vocal care, posture, breathing, phonation, registration, articulation, music reading and sight-reading. Literature to be studied and performed includes classical, spirituals, folk and pop choral music in solo or choral arrangements. Attendance at performances and rehearsals is mandatory.

East Ridge Vox Nova

East Ridge Vox Nova is a choir open to singers with changed or changing voices in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Membership in Vox Nova will provide students with class experiences in solo and group singing. The focus of the class includes development of musical independence through study of the voice itself, vocal care, posture, breathing, phonation, registration, articulation, music reading and sight-reading. Literature to be studied and performed includes classical, spirituals, folk and pop choral music in solo or choral arrangements. Attendance at performances and rehearsals is mandatory.

East Ridge Aves

East Ridge Aves is an auditioned, advanced treble choir for grades 10, 11, and 12. Membership is based upon musical independence, musical training, demonstrated ability to sing in tune and work ethic. As choir members work together to combine their musical abilities, they perform the finest music of many styles. Literature to be studied and performed includes classical, spirituals, folk and pop choral music. Emphasis is placed on voice building, ear training and sight-reading. Attendance at all performances and rehearsals is mandatory. Participation in the MSHSL Region 4AA Vocal Large Group Contest is required as a class, and Solo and Ensemble Contest is strongly encouraged.

East Ridge Bel Canto

East Ridge Bel Canto is our most advanced curricular choir, and is a choir for mixed voices in grades 10, 11 and 12 by audition only. Membership is based upon independence, musical training, demonstrated ability to sing in tune and work ethic. As choir members work together to combine their musical talents, they perform the finest music of many styles. Literature to be studied and performed includes classical, spirituals, folk and pop choral music. Emphasis is placed on voice building, ear training, and sight-reading. A full year commitment is required from members of Bel Canto. Attendance at all performances and rehearsals is mandatory. Participation in the MSHSL Region 4AA Large Group Vocal Contest is required as a class, and Solo and Ensemble Contest is strongly encouraged.

East Ridge Chamber Singers

East Ridge Chamber Singers: The mixed voices of this extracurricular choir are chosen by audition from the curricular choir classes. Auditions are in the fall and the ensemble rehearses each week during Zero Hour for the duration of the school year. This ensemble represents ERHS in the community by performing holiday music at various special events, celebrations, nursing homes, hospitals, other schools in the district, as well as the ERHS Holiday Concert. They also have performed in the wider Twin Cities community as part of the Mall of America’s Holiday Music festival, at the Minneapolis Holiday Market, Twin Cities Premium Outlets, and ValleyFair. Chamber Singers also performs for ratings at the MSHSL Ensemble Contest for Region 4AA, and consistently earns Superior Ratings.
